Gerry Varty is executive director of the Central Alberta Regional Consortium in Canada. He has facilitated the work of professional learning communities as a vehicle for ongoing action research and growth.For 15 years, Gerry served as coordinator of his district’s participation in the Alberta Initiative for School Improvement. Gerry introduces and guides new initiatives in schools and helps to manage and facilitate educational change in cultural, pedagogical, and structural domains. He has been a classroom teacher for grades 3–12, a principal, director of curriculum and instruction, and assistant superintendent for learning support and system improvement. Gerry has also served in several advisory roles as a respected leader in mathematics education, assessment, and instructional design initiatives during his 30-year career in public education.
