Jim Smith has been an educational practitioner in the public schools for nearly three decades. Starting out as a social studies teacher at Centennial Middle School in Minnesota, he quickly recognized classroom assessment as the central component of the teaching and learning process. As the school implemented the PLC process, Jim developed an innovative assessment and data support structure for teachers to develop collaborative common assessments and be informed by the results. In a few years the school was recognized as one of the highest performing in the state, known for its student achievement and innovative approaches to learning. Jim’s primary area of expertise and support with FIRST are data and assessment.
