Shifting the Equation: Student-Transforming Secondary Math Through Best Practices
As secondary math educators, we strive to help our students reach their fullest potential and open doors to higher-level mathematical thinking. However, the wide range of learner needs in today’s classrooms can be difficult to address through traditional, one-size-fits-all lesson structures. This virtual workshop introduces a student-centered approach to secondary math instruction, emphasizing the power of small group work, student teams, and intentionally designed lessons that elevate both engagement and understanding.
Participants will explore best practices that promote meaningful student discourse, problem-solving, inquiry, and academic risk-taking. Through a blend of research-based strategies and practical classroom applications, this session will highlight how to create a learning environment where all students are active participants in the math learning process. By the end of the session, educators will walk away with concrete strategies to begin shifting their instruction toward a more personalized, inclusive, and conceptually rich math classroom.
