Culturize for Paraprofessionals
Paraprofessionals play an essential role in student success and the culture of every school. Through their daily interactions, they build trusting relationships, support diverse learning needs, encourage independence, and help students feel valued and connected. Their words, actions, and commitment can make a lasting difference in a student’s confidence, learning, and sense of belonging.
Culturize for Paraprofessionals is a virtual conference designed to recognize the importance of this work and provide practical strategies paraprofessionals and teacher assistants can use in their schools. Grounded in Jimmy Casas’s Culturize framework, each session will explore how paraprofessionals can bring its four core values to life through the relationships they build and the support they provide each day.
Champion for Students: Never quit on a student. When a student struggles to meet expectations, take time to understand their story. Through compassion, empathy, and consistent support, paraprofessionals can help students feel understood, valued, and capable of success.
Expect Excellence: Model the behaviors you want students to develop. Paraprofessionals help establish a culture of excellence by communicating high expectations, providing meaningful support, and encouraging students to grow in their learning, behavior, and independence.
Carry the Banner: Be a positive voice for students, colleagues, families, and your school. Every interaction is an opportunity to strengthen relationships and build trust. Paraprofessionals contribute to a positive school culture through their professionalism, collaboration, and commitment to making others feel welcome and supported.
Merchant of Hope: See the potential in every student, especially when students struggle to see it in themselves. Through encouragement, patience, and a belief in what is possible, paraprofessionals can help students build confidence, persist through challenges, and recognize their own progress.
Throughout the conference, attendees will hear from educational thought leaders and explore practical ways to apply these core values to their unique roles. Participants will leave with renewed confidence in the importance of their work, strategies they can use immediately, and a plan for strengthening student relationships and contributing to a school culture where every student can thrive.
